BLACK
LIGHT to be filmed by producer MICHAEL DE LUCA in 2012!
Michael De Luca, the Oscar-nominated super-producer
of THE SOCIAL NETWORK and MONEYBALL, has announced that
he will produce the upcoming movie version of BLACK
LIGHT, the high concept supernatural thriller novel
written by Stephen Romano, in collaboration with writers
from the SAW franchise. “The movie deal is really
an exciting development for that project,” says
Romano. “It’s totally cinematic, this idea.
It’s about a haunted private dick specializing
in ghost cases and his battle with some especially nasty
bastards on board a high tech bullet train, so it was
always a natural fit for Hollywood. We went in with
the idea that it would make a killer screenplay. Actually,
the project was an unproduced script at first. So the
transition is natural and awesome. They’re now
in search of a director, and I think it will most likely
go to Sony Pictures. De Luca has his deal there. He
read the book over one weekend and couldn’t out
it down. He said, ‘guys, I love detective thrillers
and I love trains—and you put ‘em both together
with ghosts and demons!’ He did DRIVE ANGRY, which
was another sort of genre-bender . . . but we’re
really gonna up the ante here, with some super over-the-top
action! It’s been a charmed project since I signed
on to it in 2010. Kind of wrote itself, really, and
it’s had its own life, ever since. Jesus, what
a thought. I guess if everything goes well, we’ll
be seeing the film sometime in 2013. I can’t wait
to do the screenplay. It’s in my contract with
those guys that I get to work with them on it, so that
will be fun!”
To keep fan interested in the film, Romano commissioned
a cool portrait of Buck Carlsbad, the film’s main
character, who was inspired by “all the cool demon
hunters of the past . . . and William Peterson from
TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA.”
