STEPHEN
ROMANO attending ZOMBCON OCTOBER 30-31, as official
poster artist, with “THE EVIL DEAD”!
Earlier this year, Stephen Romano was tapped by Grindhouse
Releasing and Renaissance pictures to create an all-new
commemorative one-sheet poster for the classic horror
film THE EVIL DEAD. Approved by Sam Raimi and Bruce
Campbell himself, the poster was commissioned exclusively
as a special souvenir item, promoting a “one night-only”
screening of the classic film with Campbell and the
“Ladies Of The Evil Dead” in attendance
at this year’s first-ever ZOMBICON
in Seattle, October 30-31.
The promoters of the convention were so impressed
with the work that Romano also became the convention’s
official poster designer, supervising the creation of
the show’s awesome official souvenir one-sheet.
Romano explains: “They liked what I did on EVIL
DEAD, which I designed to look like it was a real poster
from 1982, only a lot more ambitious than the original
one—I always thought the movie was never very
well represented by that old poster with the girl in
the nightgown being dragged under by that zombie hand.
It’s a good poster and people identify it with
the film and all—but it doesn’t sell the
gore and grime of they film particularly well, so I
really went all out and did something pretty gory and
epic.
The convention guys loved it and put me to work designing
their official poster for the whole show. We did that
one in a different style, a comic book style, and I
worked with another artist to create it.. I got to work
with Mike Broom, who is an old friend who designs for
films like PREDATORS and WOLVERINE. The EVIL DEAD poster
is the one I’m really proud of, man. I did that
one myself and made it look like the poster I always
wanted to see for the film!” The EVIL DEAD poster
is a limited edition item that can be purchased only
at the official website of the show (http://www.zombcon.com),
or at the show itself—where you can also get Campbell
and the Ladies to sign it for you! Romano will also
be on hand at the show to sign copies and promote his
book SHOCK FESTIVAL. Be there or be eaten!
